Quality Management

Both quality and food safety result from close control along the value chain from breeding to final processing and packaging. Hygiene checks and quality assurance checks are made at every step.

In Laschinger Seafood these factors have the highest priority and are subject to continual improvement, wherever possible. In our own laboratory, every batch is rigorously and repeatedly checked according to our HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points) process. Our approach and the levels maintained are recognised through numerous certifications, including the IFS (International Food Standards) and BRC (British Retail Consortium).

Nutrition

Atlantic salmon provides excellent nutrition, as high-quality protein that is easily digested. Outstandingly, it is a rich source of long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, notably EPA and DHA, which have significant health benefits. In addition, salmon provides important minerals and vitamins, including phosphorus, magnesium, selenium and iodine and vitamins A and D. Salmon is widely recognised as good nutrition by health authorities, dietary specialists and many others.

Salmon is tasty and versatile. It can be smoked, marinated, grilled, fried or poached and more, served as a snack, a meal ingredient or the centre-plate protein. That is why it is the number one fish sold in Germany, according to the Fish Information Centre.

Value Chain

For Laschinger Seafood, as part of MOWI, the value chain begins with breeding and feeding farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar).
The farmed Atlantic salmon is based on the legendary Mowi race of the species, distinguished by its size, colour and quality. Mowi salmon originated in the Fjordland region of Norway, swimming upstream against the icy currents of the Vosso river.
Careful selection and breeding over the fifty-year history of salmon farming have led to an ideal salmon for farming.

Having established itself as the world leader in salmon farming, Marine Harvest extended it activities to include salmon feed. This involves careful selection and processing of sustainable ingredients to provide precise and balanced nutrition.
Located off the coasts of Norway, Scotland and Ireland, the salmon farms are operated with close attention to fish welfare and care for the environment. Clear coastal waters with strong flows keep the salmon active, contributing to the excellent quality of a wide range of products for retail and food service.

Salmon products from Laschinger range from whole fish to fillets and portions (fresh and frozen) and to smoked and marinated salmon. In addition, there is a range of ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat products. The product range and packaging is constantly evolving, led by innovative new product development specialists seeking greater convenience and value for money.

Sustainability

At Laschinger Seafood, and throughout MOWI, we know that sustainability is essential for long-term survival as a business.
From breeding to final products, sustainability and environmental responsibility are priorities. Farming is conducted in ways that minimise impact on the surroundings. These practices are audited and certified as meeting the specifications of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. Wild-caught fish that we process are certified in an equivalent manner by the Marine Stewardship Council. Similarly, organic products we provide are certified as meeting strict specifications.

Processing is organised to ensure we gain maximum product and minimum waste. This, coupled with efficiency of scale, means Laschinger products are top quality and excellent value for money.
